Constitution of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union
We, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, establish this Constitution in order to form a more perfect union. We believe that all working people and all human beings have a right to a safe and decent living at a reasonable wage and that all members of society are entitled to equal and fair justice. We believe that all people, regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or creed are entitled to equal opportunity and treatment. We further believe that all members of society should challenge such pernicious evils as racism, sexism, and capital's domination of labor. We also believe that it is important for the working class to ever realize that "in unity there is strength" and that "an injury to one is an injury to all."
NEW RICHMOND VA P&DC TO OPEN IN 2009
On July 21, 2009 Local 305 President Kenny Hayes, Treasurer D. Yam Cardin and Director of Contract Administration Kevin Fletcher toured the new 715,743 square-foot Richmond Processing and Distribution Center along with Richmond Branch President Mike Williams and a number of union stewards.
The new plant, which sits on a 61-acre site near Richmond International Airport, will replace the Brook Road facility, which sits on only 16.4 acres. The plant will be the East Coast's second-largest facility (Philadelphia is the largest).
As of July 2009, the new plant is 90% complete. Installation will begin soon on the High-Speed Tray Sorters (HSTS) in addition the facility will have two Small Parcel/Bundle Sorters (SPBS) and a Low-Cost Universal Sorter (LCUS). There will also be a High Speed Tray Sorter, along with an overhead conveyor system to transport mail to and form all areas of the workroom floor. By 2010 there will be two Flat Sequencing System (FSS) machines, which will sort flats into walk-sequence order.
By the end of this year, mail which is currently processed in three locations, the Parcel Distribution Annex (PDA), the Admiral Street Annex, and the Brook Road facility, will be processed at the new facility.
